Steins;Gate 0 (First 5 Episodes) Basic First Thoughts

Hey everyone Michael here. I just wanted to share my basic first thoughts of the first episode of the sequel series to Steins;Gate called “Steins;Gate 0”. Now I will be honest when I was aware of this sequel series I’d be lying if I wasn’t thinking why make a sequel to Steins;Gate because while the original series while had some small flaws wrapped itself up very well. But now that I saw it, I can’t say for certain if it’s better than the first Steins;Gate series but that said it’s actually really well done.
I chose to watch this series Simuldub because of personal preference and the main cast fit right back into their roles. The one person right off the bat I can praise is J. Michael Tatum because in both Steins;Gate series he proves how versatile of a voice actor he can be nailing the wide range of emotions that Okabe is feeling or reacting to. Even the new people like Monica Rial as Maho, Emily Neves as Judy Reyes, and Chris Wehkamp as Alexis Leskinen have all been welcome additions to the series. The story they have now so far while it is slow paced I think is very interesting especially when talking about Artificial Intelligence. Lastly I can say the writing for the most part has been on point, the same as well can be said for the animation by White Fox.

If I do have to name a negative it involves a twist that happened in the latest episode and for those that have not seen this series I won’t spoil it but while it was well done, the way it was handled I just found it to be rather predictable.

Overall Steins;Gate so far is very good and I am excited to see where the series goes from here. If you have seen the original Steins;Gate series I seriously recommend you give this series a watch. If you weren’t a fan of Steins;Gate this will not win you over, and I don’t think this would be a good introduction for newcomers since it shows stuff that happened in the first series and you will be lost. This has been Michael Schomer and I’ll see you all next time.
