Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Basic First Thoughts
So I just got back from seeing Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and for a first time viewing it was a mixed bag for me.
To mention some of the stuff I liked first, Chris Pratt does a good job and I think his character Owen was even more likable then he was in Jurassic World. J. A. Bayona’s directing I think really saved this movie from being a complete disaster. The tension that comes during the first and third act were especially well done, and I liked the dark moments that this movie had. This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise but the visual effects were outstanding especially since from what I heard they used both CGI, and practical effects and I can see it being up for an Oscar on special effects alone.
When it comes to the things I did not like the middle act could have been paced a little better, and the screenplay really let this one down. Not just in the it doesn’t really do a lot of new things, but also some characters make little to no sense, especially the antagonist’s. Lastly the excuse they had for Chris Pratt, and Bryce Dallas Howard while it is acceptable I felt could have been stronger. Really had this movie either gotten another re-write or even maybe more time to iron out some of the kinks this could have been so much better.
Overall I liked this movie better than The Lost World, and Jurassic Park 3. But considering one I feel is meh, and the other I straight up did not like that really isn’t saying much. It might be worth seeing as a matinée especially if you are into monster movies and you turn your brain off, but I don’t think I can go any higher than that.
